Keeping your kitchen clean is essential to keep food safe. If a kitchen is not kept clean and tidy then bacteria will grow and spread causing the simple sore throat, to the cold, diarrhea or even worse.
Dirty or unclean kitchens could be harbouring things like salmonella or even E. coli. Salmonella are bacteria (small microscopic germs), that when eaten pass through the stomach and into the intestine where they bind to the wall and actually penetrate the walks barrier and are taken to the liver or spleen: where they can cause disease of the intestines (sometimes fatal) in humans and even animals.
Salmonella doubles in the summer months, to kill salmonella you must keep food at the right temperature between 0°C and 5°C.The other major disease we can catch from a filthy kitchen is E. coli, E. coli is very dangerous to the elderly and children and it may be lethal. Salmonella has been responsible last year for 9,000 related deaths, according to the national centre for health statistics.
E. coli and salmonella are very dangerous, but they can be prevented by just simple cleaning and making sure things like bacteria don’t grow, on damp cloths, dirty worktops, dirty utensils and dirty hands.
Dirty or damp cloths are one the favoured places for bacteria and germs to breed. So make sure you wash your kitchen cloths and sponges thoroughly and regularly and make sure to leave them to dry out before using them again. You should keep different cloths for different cleaning jobs, for example one for the dishes and one for wiping cupboards down.
Another criminal in the germ spreading area is the tea towel, as when you wipe your hands on the tea towel after touching raw meat, this will spread bacteria to the towel, and so it’s very important to wash them regularly.
Also knives, spoons and other utensils can cause and spread germs, so to stop bacteria spreading make sure utensils are washed in hot water killing germs , and removing all sources of leftover food.
Hands are also big germ spreaders, as hands touch everything in the kitchen from food to cupboard doors, tea towels to fridge doors, so it’s essential you keep your hands clean. You need to wash your hands thoroughly with an anti-bacterial soap each time you do things like, Prepare food, touching raw meat, going to the toilet, and touching animals.
Also make sure you dispose all food wastes properly, and remove waste from the kitchen often at least once a week, and clean your bin regularly. Make sure that you clean thoroughly as well , that means behind the toaster , the fridge doors , the cupboards inside the them , and even the kettle germs can and will be living anywhere.
If you follow these short rules, then your family will be germ free, letting you and your family lead a illness free life.
Keeping your kitchen and home clean are very important, not only for safety but for health too.
